Issues

As a Town of Lodi resident, Tom loves the Lodi area and is proud to call it home. On the county board, he is eager to share his strong connections to the things that make Columbia County a special place, including its unique mix of rural values and commitment to smart growth opportunities. Tom believes in bringing a common-sense approach and cooperative perspective to tackling the issues that confront our community. He is committed to ensuring that a broad spectrum of opinions and perspectives are heard, and that the number one job of county government is providing efficient, effective services through responsibly managed resources, without partisanship or favoritism. Tom believes the keys to citizen satisfaction with county government include:

• Well-maintained roads and parks

• Clean water and environment

• Effective zoning and land stewardship

• Smart, forward-thinking economic development

• Strong, reliable emergency services

•  Support for law enforcement and our justice system

• Care for the vulnerable and support for those who need assistance

Recent projects announced are great news for the future of Columbia County.

• The Wisconsin Battery Company plans to build a new 100,000-square-foot battery manufacturing plant on 17 acres in the Portage Industrial Park. The Company will focus on  the production of hemp carbon batteries as a sustainable alternative to lithium-ion batteries as well as the production of industrial batteries, which make energy storage solutions for solar and wind power systems more efficient and reliable. They hope to employ 600 people within 6 years.  (WI State Journal, 12/27/23)

• Energy planners in Wisconsin are eagerly awaiting a 20-megawatt CO2 Battery under the forthcoming Columbia Energy Storage Project with an eye on beginning construction in 2025 at a site in the Town of Portage. The project will be up and running in 2026 if all goes according to plan. The new storage system will serve as a model for replication all around the US. Partners in the project include Alliant Energy, WEC Energy Group, Madison Gas and Electric, Shell Global Solutions US, the Electric Power Research Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Madison College.  (Cleantechnica.com, Dec 2023)

Tom believes these exciting alternative energy projects can be the start of bringing high-tech investment, partnerships and jobs to Columbia County. As a Supervisor, Tom will do everything he can to support these forward-thinking, economically impactful opportunities.
